Earlier Today, information was leaked regarding that Qualcomm is prepping Snapdragon 818 SoC with Deca-Core CPU. Last week, Mediatek was in the news for the launch of their first Deca-core MT6797 SoC. It is a part of  Mediatek’s Helio X20 series. MT6797 consists of four ARM Cortex-A53  cores clocked at 1.4GHz , four ARM Cortex-A57 cores clocked at 2GHz   and two ARM Cortex-A72 cores clocked at 2.5GHz . It support  993MHz LPDDR3 RAM and LTE Cat-6. The power consumption and efficiency is yet to be tested.

10 cores on 20nm? Crazy!

The leaked information chart about the Snapdragon 818 SoC also shows the presence of a Deca-core chipset.  The chip consists of four power saving Cortex A53 cores clocked at 1.2 GHz, two mid-range Cortex A-53 cores clocked at 1.6 GHz and four high performance A72 cores clocked at 2.0 GHz.  The Snapdragon 818 SoC is said to come with the Adreno 532 GPU and support for LPDDR4 RAM. It is produced using 20nm process.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 818 is clocked lesser than Mediatek’s MT6797.

While Qualcomm has already confirmed the launch of Snapdragon 820 SoC with its custom Kyro cores,the company may not be ready to decrease their reliance fully on ARM’s core design for the time being.

Qualcomm is already getting some negativity due to the overheating issue in its Snapdragon 810 SoC. This was also escalated by the fact that Samsung  used it’s own Exynos 7420 chipset instead of the Snapdragon 810 which impact the Qualcomm’s revenue drastically!
