So finally the #HYPE is over. Oneplus has officially launched the Two. It is the successor to one of the most anticipated smartphones of last year, the Oneplus One. The launch itself was different from any other device launches we have ever seen. It was launched in VR. Users were able to view the launch using the Oneplus Cardboard which the company provided at a very low price(Rs.99 in India). The experience was not the best, but still was innovative. Now let’s take a look at the Oneplus Two.
The Two’s design is different from its predecessor. It now has a finger print scanner in the front. The fingerprint sensor is said to be faster than the iPhone 6. It isn’t a press-able button but more like a touchpad. It can also be customized such as long press to launch Google Now and double tap to launch the camera app. The Oneplus Two features a magnesium frame and metal buttons. It also has a three position switch which is used for changing the notification settings. The speakers are placed at the bottom of the device. It has black sandstone back cover out of the box. But this time around it will have more Styleswap covers such as bamboo, Kevlar, black apricot, and rosewood.
The device supports a 5.5 inch IPS display with Full HD resolution which gives a pixel density of 401 ppi. The screen is said to better than the one in the One. The new display is said to have deeper blacks which improves the contrast ratio. The brightness is also very good and beats up its competitors which have IPS displays like iPhone 6 and the HTC One M9.
The Oneplus Two is powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 v2.1 octa-core processor clocked at 1.8 GHz. It has four Cortex-A53 cores & four Cortex-A57 cores. It has 4GB LPDDR4 RAM. It has 13 megapixel rear camera with Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) and Laser focusing. The camera can record 4K videos at 30 fps. The front camera is a a 5 megapixel which can record 1080p at 30 fps. It comes in 16 GB and 64 GB variants. It also features Reversible USB Type-C Connector. This is the first device with USB Type C support. It also has 2 Sim Slots. The battery is a 3300 mAh battery.
The Oneplus Two runs on Oxygen OS 2.0 out of the box. It is based on latest Android 5.1.1. As you might know,Oxygen OS was developed by Oneplus after their deal with Cyanogen ended. Oxygen OS is purely stock Android based. The 2.0 version has many upgrades like the new Camera app and the new File Manager. It allows theming like an option for switching to dark mode and changing the icon packs. It also has a new feature which is called App Permissions. This feature is being developed in Android M and it was a surprise to see this feature in the Oxygen OS.
This is the best part. The Oneplus has pushed the boundary with how cheap a flagship can be. The 16 GB variant is priced at $329 and the 64 GB is priced at $389. But it will be sold via Invites only. Here’s how you can get your invite ?
At this price there can’t be a better deal. The new Moto X is also a direct compeitior to the Oneplus Two. You can check it out here. Let’s see which device gets the upper hand. Do comment on your favourite Oneplus Two feature. 😉
